Rescue RoomsRock City may be the biggest and well-known of Nottingham’s venues, but this place – a former sports bar – is my personal favourite.

Like its big brother next door, it’s split into two areas, with the main room adjoining the bar area and an upstairs room – The Red Room – for the smaller bands. This room also provides access to the balcony in the main room, allowing you to watch a band from an elevated vantage point.

The bar area is a popular haunt for students, and is an ideal pre-gig meeting place and post-gig watering hole. It’s also worth mentioning the toilets in here. The wallpaper is a porny tapestry of pages from mens’ magazines. So you can idly look up and see tits whilst you relieve yourself. Not on that way, obviously…
