The Sheds are back once again at Rock City, as Rick’s obsession with overtaking Spear of Destiny as the band to have played the venue the most times intensifies. It’s also his birthday. But is everything ok…

The Futureheads
“It’s been too long”, says The Futureheads’ leading force Barry Hyde in his unmistakably strong Sunderland brogue. “This gig is gonna last three weeks!”, he enthuses. He no doubt tells all his audiences that.

Wolf Alice
I’ve followed this band since 2013 when they supported Swim Deep at the Rescue Rooms. I was instantly impressed, and I’ve seen them in support of other bands and at festivals since. But this was my first time seeing them step out on top of the bill.

Shame
I saw these miscreants at the Swn Festival in Cardiff in 2016. They were the first band on the bill on the Sunday and shook off a few hangovers and generally left people uncomfortable with their gnarly post-punk, menacing prowess and semi-nakedness. This gig further piqued my interest in them.

Grandaddy
How had I not seen this band until now? They’ve been around since 1992 for heaven’s sake!

Primal Scream
Primal Scream are one of those bands that you just have to see live. They should be on everyone’s bucket list.

Honeyblood
I’ll be honest. I got confused between Honeyblood and Black Honey when I requested to review this band. ’twas a happy confusion. Serendipity at its finest.

The Big Moon
Here’s a band who are finally going places. I’d seen them in supporting roles a couple of times and always been impressed. Stepping out on their own, they sound braver and bolder than ever. The Big Moon could make it big.

Let’s Eat Grandma
I saw these girls at the Swn festival the week before this gig. They blew me away in Cardiff so I jumped at the chance of seeing them again closer to home. Once again I was left amazed.

The Kills
The Kills are one of those bands that are so much better live than on record. It’s not a criticism, just an observation. I’d never seen them live before. I wouldn’t hesitate in seeing them again.
